Three ways to work together

Strategy and architecture decisions, hands-on platform builds, and a productised SQL Server audit. Each track is scoped tightly so you know what you're getting.

Track 01

Development

Hands-on data warehouse and lakehouse work on the Microsoft stack - modelling, build-out, performance tuning, monitoring, and governance. Focused strictly on the data layer, not the BI tooling on top.

What I build

  • DWH development - Microsoft Fabric Warehouse, Synapse, Azure SQL
  • Lakehouse development - Databricks, Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, Delta, Bronze / Silver / Gold
  • DWH modelling - Kimball dimensional, Medallion, Data Vault
  • OLTP & DWH performance optimization - query tuning, indexing strategy, schema design, partitioning
  • SQL Server monitoring - wait stats, query plans, alerting, observability
  • Governance implementation - row-level security (RLS), data masking, data management

Stack

  • Microsoft Fabric - Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines
  • Databricks - Delta, Spark, Unity Catalog
  • Synapse, Azure Data Factory
  • SQL Server / Azure SQL - on-prem, IaaS, Managed Instance, Database

Track 02

Consulting

Decisions before code: shape the strategy, the architecture, and the way of working. Vendor-neutral, grounded in the Azure Well-Architected Framework.

Areas

  • Data & AI Strategy - business analysis, infrastructure audit, roadmap, KPI & cost framing.
  • Advisory - technology selection, second opinions, Lakehouse vs Warehouse trade-offs.
  • Architecture - reference designs aligned with the Well-Architected Framework, capacity & cost modeling.
  • Audit - governance, security, FinOps posture, compliance gaps. SQL Server audit is the productised flavour - see Track 03.
  • Training - focused, per-technology workshops for engineering and BI teams.

Engagement model

  • Fixed-scope review or short retainer
  • Written deliverable + walk-through call
  • Remote-first, EU/CET hours

Track 03

SQL Server Audit

A focused, productised review of an existing SQL Server estate. Severity-ranked findings with effort estimates - not a deck of vendor recommendations.

What's covered

  • Performance tuning - server tuning, query plans, index hygiene
  • HA/DR review - Always On AGs, log shipping, backup posture
  • Migration readiness - to Azure SQL MI, IaaS, or Fabric
  • Health check - configuration, security, observability
  • Capacity & licensing posture (cores, editions, downgrades)

Deliverables

  • Written report with severity-ranked findings
  • Prioritised remediation plan with effort estimates
  • Walk-through call with the team
